Solar Panel Delaminations and Cracks
Application Note 900
Delaminations and Cracks
Sample & Method

In the image the echoes from the ultrasonic transducer were gated on the interface between the silicon stack and the silicone adhesive layer on a large solar panel.

Result

The strongest signals were reflected by the white areas associated with the burn out crack and bounded by the cell partitions. These areas are delaminations either within the stack of the cell or between the cell and the silicone layer behind it. The large black lines running from the top of the image to the bottom are cracks in the glass facing sheet caused by a burn out.
